Essential Functions and Primary Duties
  • Oversee month‑end and year‑end closing process, including preparation of audit schedules, financial statements and notes to the financial statements.
  • Keep engagement partner informed and updated on engagement progress, engagement issues, and team status and needs.
  • Be knowledgeable on complex accounting issues and treatment, proficient in accounting research.
  • Responsible for preparing monthly financial statements, including statement of financial position, statement of activities, statement of functional expenses, and analysis on changes in financial position and budget variances.
  • Review reconciliations for significant balance sheet accounts and various other general ledger accounts, as needed; and review month‑end closing entries including payroll, fringe, indirect allocations, investment allocations, and grant allocations.
  • Maintain deep understanding of the accounting operations within each assigned client.
  • Proficient knowledge of the client’s accounting software packages.
  • Responsible for recommending and enforcing the internal controls, policies, and procedures established by the client.
  • Lead the engagement team in preparation for client audits as the main contact with external auditors.
  • Manage the preparation of client 990 and tax forms and year‑end preparation of their 1099s.
  • Recommend, design, and implement any necessary policy controls and procedures.
  • Other duties may include, but are not limited to: budget preparation, review, modification, grant reporting to private/federal funders, drafting policies and procedures, review and payment of client payables in third‑party software, client billing, drafting of engagement letters.
  • Train, coach and mentor staff accountants.
  • Review and supervise Senior and Staff Accountants’ monthly work, including journal entry and monthly reconciliation review, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in month‑end completion.
  • Assist in growth, development and training of staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year supervisory experience preferred.
  • Professional credentials such as CFA, MBA, CMA, CGMA, CA, or CPA are highly desirable.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience in public accounting.
  • Proficient with various accounting software programs, including but not limited to Quick Books, Sage Intacct, Solomon and Great Plains.
  • Proficient with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
  • Hands‑on experience with Alteryx for data preparation and automation.
  • Skilled in Excel Power Query and Power Pivot for advanced data modeling and analysis.
  • Proficient in SQL, with the ability to write and optimize queries across multiple tables.
  • Broad exposure to various systems, including ERP platforms, Microsoft Access, SQL databases, business intelligence tools, and CRM systems.
  • Ability to conduct analytical reviews and exhibit an understanding of complex accounting theory.
  • A deep understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to keep up to date with industry trends and technology developments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Achieve professional certifications relative to area of expertise; must have and preserve required licenses.
  • Must possess analytical skills.
  • Proficient use of applicable technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally.
  • Must be able to travel based on client and business needs.
