About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our growing biotech organization in San Diego. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in public accounting, preferably with Big 4 experience
, combined with hands‑on experience in the biotechnology or life sciences industry
.

This is a hands‑on role with broad exposure across accounting and finance, combining strong technical accounting skills with operational ownership and cross‑functional collaboration. This role will be responsible for supporting the month‑end and year‑end close processes, preparing and analyzing financial information, maintaining accurate accounting records, and partnering cross‑functionally to support the company's financial reporting and operational objectives.

The successful candidate will thrive in a fast‑paced, evolving environment and will bring strong technical accounting, analytical, operational and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules.
  • Perform detailed analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts and investigate variances.
  • Prepare and process Payroll, including review of payroll information and related accounting.
  • Review and Process Expense Reports
  • Review and supervise Accounts Payable, including oversight of day‑to‑day activities and period‑end processes.
  • Prepare financial reporting packages and supporting schedules for management.
  • Support the preparation of audit schedules and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Assist with fixed assets, prepaids, accruals, deferred expenses, and other key accounting areas as needed.
  • Support and strengthen internal controls and process improvements across the accounting function.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, controls, and reporting.
  • Participate in special projects and other operational initiatives as the company advances its technology and mission.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
    , including experience in public accounting.
  • Big 4 accounting firm experience strongly preferred.
  • Biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or other highly regulated industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with month‑end and year‑end close processes.
  • Strong understanding of account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and financial statement analysis.
