Seeking a Physician who has a passion for providing the highest quality care in an institutional setting. The Physician provides professional medical direction, oversight, and direct patient care in a correctional facility.

The successful applicant should be able to perform all of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job requirements:

Provide a variety of professional medical services to inmates/residents, including examinations, diagnosing medical problems, prescribing medications, and providing treatment and follow-up care.

Provide leadership and direction for the medical program in collaboration with the Health Services Supervisor.

Monitor and review operations and standards of care delivered to inmates/residents.

Interview inmates/residents and make decisions regarding admissions.

Conduct clinical rounds.

Participate in treatment team meetings to devise, review, and modify individual health plans.

Direct unit treatment operations.

Perform minor surgeries and occasional major surgeries if necessary.

Hold clinics for nursing specialists to assist in diagnosis, treatment, and prescriptions.

Maintain good working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies.

Utilize established policies and procedures, exercising sound independent judgment in decision-making.

Assist in formulating facility medical policies.

Motivate and encourage staff to perform duties in accordance with policies and procedures.

Evaluate medical services regularly to prevent misuse or duplication.

Monitor inpatient hospitalizations and facilitate early releases when appropriate.

Monitor potential catastrophic illnesses closely.

Maintain accurate records, reports, and logs, ensuring confidentiality of medical records.

Audit medical files for documentation completeness.

Recommend improvements for operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Coordinate with outside hospital/agency administrators to ensure effective collaboration.

Support accreditation efforts (NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO) by maintaining organizational and service standards.

Accept on-call responsibilities.

Attend seminars, workshops, and conferences as required.

Provide health counseling and education to individuals or groups.

Clearly communicate responsibilities, authorities, and accountability to subordinates.

Conduct staff meetings and promote effective communication between administration, staff, and inmates/residents.

Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, demonstrating tact, diplomacy, and good judgment, especially in sensitive situations.

Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, regulations, and legal documents.

Qualifications:

Graduate from an accredited school of medicine.
Licensed to practice medicine in the state of employment.
Valid driver's license required.
Minimum age: 18 years.
