Mathematics and Statistics Instructor

UC San Diego Extended Studies provides continuing education, professional development, and workforce training to individuals looking to advance their careers. The Technology and Engineering department offers high‑quality, industry‑relevant courses designed to equip students with technical and analytical skills for success in various STEM fields. It delivers a comprehensive set of courses in Mathematics and Statistics, encompassing topics such as precalculus, calculus, statistics, discrete mathematics, mathematical modeling, differential equations, and linear algebra, to a diverse audience of students, including working professionals and academic learners, with a focus on providing practical applications and problem‑solving skills.

The Mathematics or Statistics Instructor will teach courses designed for professionals, undergraduate/ graduate students, as well as lifelong learners seeking to continue their education or strengthen their mathematical and analytical skills. The instructor will develop and deliver engaging course content that applies mathematical theories to real‑world engineering, technology, and data science problems. This role requires expertise in mathematics or statistics, strong communication skills, and a passion for teaching.

UC San Diego Extended Studies is always looking to expand its continuing education offerings in Mathematics or Statistics, so we welcome topics suggested by the applicant that may not be yet available to students in our current portfolio of courses and programs.

A reasonable estimate of compensation for teaching one section of this course is $1,500-$10,000. The amount determined within the compensation range is dependent upon course modality, units of instruction, and number of enrollments. Instructional agreements are made on a section‑by‑section basis at the discretion of the University with no guarantee to teach future sections of this course or any other courses.

As a condition of employment, the finalist will be required to disclose if they are subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that they committed any misconduct; are currently being investigated for misconduct; left a position during an investigation for alleged misconduct; or have filed an appeal with a previous employer. "Misconduct" means any violation of the policies or laws governing conduct at the applicant’s previous place of employment, including, but not limited to, violations of policies or laws prohibiting sexual harassment, sexual assault, or other forms of harassment, discrimination, dishonesty, or unethical conduct, as defined by the employer.

Instructors should be able to teach detailed information in a creative and engaging manner to a large number of participants who are adult learners, while providing a perspective on how that knowledge is applied in the industry.
