Assignments may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, and/or off‑campus classes. Candidates should live within commuting distance to San Diego. Part‑time positions are as‑needed.
Responsibilities- Provide instruction in accordance with the established curriculum and course outlines.
- Attend to students and be available to them outside of class.
- Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
- Maintain current knowledge in the subject‑matter areas.
- Teach all scheduled classes, whether lecture or laboratory.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
- Create and maintain an environment that encourages free discussion of ideas, interests, and issues.
- Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part‑time/temporary faculty member.
- Master's degree in Homeland Security, Emergency Management, Emergency Preparedness, Crises Management, Disaster Management, or Cybersecurity, or an equivalent.
- For upper‑division courses (pending Title 5 regulations effective 8 August 2025): a bachelor’s degree in the discipline directly related to the teaching assignment; six years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment; and a licensure in the form of the Stanford University Toxicology Institute CA Specialized Training Institute Emergency Management Instructor Certification (EMIC) or the ability to obtain it within one year of employment.
Qualifications & Equivalency
- Foreign degree holders must have coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Academic Credentials Evaluation Institute, Inc. (ACEI). A copy of the evaluation must be submitted with the application.
- California Community College Instructor Credential (valid for life).
- Commitment to diversity – demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to diverse backgrounds of students, faculty, and staff.
Classroom assignment: $55.80 – $71.21 per hour
Non‑classroom assignment: $41.85 – $53.41 per hour
Final salary placement is contingent upon receipt of official transcripts. Instructors with advanced coursework will be placed on the appropriate class/step of the Adjunct College Salary Schedules effective the first month following receipt of transcripts.
Application Requirements Before Employment- Submit official transcripts.
- Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam (renewable every 4 years).
- Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer (clearance required prior to first day).
- Present original documents proving eligibility to work in the United States.
Employees may be transferred to any site at the Chancellor’s discretion.
Applicants will be added to an adjunct pool for possible assignments in the fall, spring, and/or summer semesters. Applications are purged approximately one year from submission.
