Job Summary
The Craft Center at UC San Diego serves campus and external community practitioners in various disciplines of artistic craftsmanship, and individuals through all sectors interested in arts or artistic pursuits. Under the supervision of the Craft Center Manager, the Craft Center Program Instructor is responsible for instructing UCSD students, Non-UC students, staff & faculty members in non-credit classes and/or one-day workshops.
Instructors will demonstrate applicable skills in the required field.
Positions to be hired include
:
Ceramics Instructor, Jewelry Making Instructor, Surfboard Shaping Instructor, Wheel Throwing Instructor, Handbuilding Instructor, Gallery Wheel Instructor, Soap making Instructor, Woodworking Instructor, Culinary Art Instructor and Mixed Media Instructor.
Responsibilities
- Instruct non-credit classes and/or one-day workshops for UCSD students, staff, faculty, and external participants.
- Demonstrate applicable skills in the required discipline and maintain safe practices.
- Adapt instruction to diverse groups and individual needs; develop programs geared to group and individual learning goals.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of program activity practices and procedures; ability and willingness to adhere to health and safety codes.
- Verbal and written communication in English; strong listening, multitasking, time management, and ability to present before groups.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and critical thinking.
- Client service mindset, entrepreneurial spirit, and creative thinking.
- Basic computer skills relevant to job duties; knowledge of campus policies and safety precautions.
- Current, valid certifications to teach the specified activity; prior teaching/leadership experience in the discipline.
- Ability to teach/lead a diverse group and tailor programs to different needs.
Special Conditions
- Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
- Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
