Contract Instructor-College Credit
San Diego Community College District – San Diego Miramar College. Position number 007874. Closing date: 2/6/2026.
The PositionFull‑time, 10‑month contract; academic; FLSA exempt. Salary is Class 1, Step C through Class 6, Step C ($6,933.44–$8,849.03 per month) based on the 2024 AFT‑College Faculty Tenured‑Tenure Track Faculty Salary Schedule. Benefits include employer‑paid medical, dental, vision, sick leave and professional development opportunities. Position is paid under the AFT‑Guild, Local 1931 – Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Major Responsibilities- Teach Biotechnology lecture and lab courses in accordance with departmental and college standards.
- Participate in biology department meetings and required committees.
- Assist with curriculum revision and course/program assessment.
- Collaborate with college staff and industry professionals.
- Maintain office hours, mentor and advise students.
- Facilitate student networking with industry and professional development opportunities.
- Build collegial relationships with stakeholders across the college.
- Connect students to career pathways and support their success.
- Fulfill community college instructor duties in compliance with district policies and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Master's degree in any biological science, OR
- Bachelor's degree in any biological science plus a Master’s in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science, OR
- Equivalent experience and education.
- Upper‑division and/or graduate credit coursework in biological sciences with a biotechnology background.
- Demonstrated success in teaching biotechnology and introductory biology courses at the community‑college level.
- Experience developing, coordinating, and evaluating new curriculum, course materials, and laboratories with current technologies.
- Experience mentoring and training students through professional‑development activities.
- Ability to collaborate collegially with students, faculty, administrators, and staff.
- Ability to connect students to career education programs and industry opportunities.
- Participation in governance, committee, or department work, including Student Learning Outcomes and Program Review processes.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds.
