FACULTY POSITION AT SCRIPPS INSTITUTION OF OCEANOGRAPHY, UC SAN DIEGO – Marine Natural Products/Marine Biotechnology

The University of California San Diego invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO, https://scripps.ucsd.edu ). This position will be filled at the Assistant Professor level. We seek a motivated, broad-thinking scientist and educator to establish a vigorous research program and provide intellectual leadership in their field while complementing existing expertise at SIO and other UC San Diego departments.

Approximately 200 principal investigators at SIO work to protect the planet by researching our oceans, Earth, and atmosphere to find solutions to our greatest environmental challenges. We strive for interdisciplinary engagement and rigorous data science.

We seek candidates that have a history of innovative research in fields ranging from, but not limited to: natural products chemistry, chemical ecology, metabolomics or other ‘omic’ sciences, pharmacology, biotechnology, and chemical and synthetic biology. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong, marine-focused extramurally supported research program that integrates with and elevates existing marine natural products research at SIO, other departments at UC San Diego, and, in particular, the Center for Marine Biotechnology and Biomedicine (CMBB, https://scripps.ucsd.edu/cmbb

). The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels, develop courses that promote student knowledge of marine natural products, marine biotechnology, marine chemical ecology and/or related topics, and train the next generation of researchers. Candidates are encouraged to highlight how they anticipate integrating UC San Diego’s Principles of Community (https://ucsd.edu/about/principles.html)

in their research, teaching, and service.
