The Lead SGPI carries inspector-level authority and credibility across steam turbine main propulsion, steam turbine generators, boiler systems, and associated control and auxiliary systems.

This position requires particular familiarity with the hybrid propulsion implications for LHA-6 class ships that include gas turbine capability, and with the impact of hybrid visits on Gas Turbine team concurrency per PWS Section 1.2.

  • Serve as the senior SME for steam turbine propulsion, steam generators, steam turbine generators, and associated control and auxiliary systems.
  • Coordinate with the Lead MGTI and PM when LHA-6 hybrid propulsion visits require gas turbine SME support, per PWS Section 1.2 concurrency rules.
  • Compile the Pre-Visit Intelligence Package for each assigned hull; conduct pre-visit contact with ship leadership.
  • Conduct and supervise deckplate training at all levels; administer Level 2 pre/post knowledge assessments and complete Level 3 behavioral observation forms.
  • Generate maintenance-ready AWRs for all Category I and II material discrepancies; review all SME-generated AWRs.
  • Complete all post-trip deliverables within five working days of trip completion.
  • Submit inputs for the monthly Class Issues Assessment Report; flag amphibious steam class-level patterns to the PM.
  • Participate in annual STANCO; lead steam propulsion curriculum review agenda items.

  • Minimum two (2) tours as a Navy Steam Generating Propulsion Inspector with Navy surface ship maintenance processes.
  • Extensive experience conducting steam generating propulsion inspections on surface warships or military auxiliaries with qualifications and certification as or equivalent to a U.S. Navy Steam Generating Propulsion Inspector.
  • Direct operational and maintenance experience within the last five (5) years with steam turbine main propulsion, steam turbine generators, associated control systems, and associated auxiliaries currently in use by the Navy.
  • Undergraduate or associate's degree, or extensive demonstrated experience in a management role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Twenty-five (25) or more years of SGPI-qualified inspection experience.
  • Experience on LHD-1 class and LHA-6 class (both steam and hybrid configurations).
  • Cross-qualification awareness of LM-2500 gas turbine systems for LHA-6 hybrid propulsion coordination.
  • Prior RATT, ERAT, or TYCOM-directed fleet engagement experience.
