Embedded Software Engineer, Robotics, Software Engineer
Gel Tech Labs is an angel and grant‑funded start‑up replacing manual lab tests with robotic instruments for scientists working with hydrogels. Our proprietary technology automates manual R&D and QC tests to accelerate hydrogel product development in medicine, wound care, and agriculture. You will work directly with our engineering team to replace outdated manual methods with smart automation.
Position OverviewWe are seeking an Embedded Systems Engineer who loves building things that move. You will bridge the gap between hardware and software, taking ownership of the firmware development for our STM
32‑based lab automation instrument. Your work will directly contribute to a live product used in real scientific labs.
- Firmware Architecture & Development: Design and implement reliable C/C++ firmware for STM
32 microcontrollers. Handle motor, temperature control and sensor data acquisition. - Hardware Bring‑up & Integration: Lead the electrical system integration. Bring up custom PCBAs, debug electrical issues using oscilloscopes/logic analyzers, and ensure seamless communication between subsystems (RS-485, I2C, SPI).
- System Validation: Design Verification and Validation (V&V) testing plans with the Systems Engineering team and support the V&V testing. Analyze performance data to drive engineering decisions with the product development team.
- Software Interfacing: Develop communication protocols to interface the embedded system with desktop applications (Python/C#) for control and data visualization.
- Documentation: Track tasks and document debugging activities in Jira.
- Education: BS or MS in ECE, CSE, Robotics or a related field.
- Proficiency with C/C++ and Python.
- Hands‑on familiarity with STM
32 or other microcontrollers and debugging tools. - Solid understanding of hardware interfaces (UART, I2C, SPI, RS‑485, etc.).
- Ability to read schematics and wire basic circuits; PCB design is a plus.
- Comfortable working with ambiguity in an early‑stage startup.
- (Preferred) Prior work experience or portfolio of embedded systems projects.
