Field Application Engineer – Top Secret Clearance Preferred (San Diego, CA)
Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Field Test & Application Engineer to join the Government (QGOV) division. This role is critical in ensuring the seamless integration and robust performance of complex systems across hardware, software, and network components, requiring strong background in field logistics operations, testing, integration methodologies, and multidisciplinary troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities & Job Exposure – Field Test & Application Engineer- Plan and execute field-level system tests for integrated hardware and software platforms, ensuring performance and reliability under real-world conditions.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams (software, hardware, systems) to define integration and deployment strategies, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system behavior.
- Conduct hands‑on integration and validation testing in laboratory and field environments, simulating operational scenarios to verify system functionality.
- Analyze field-test data, identify root causes of performance issues or failures, and work with engineering teams to implement corrective actions.
- Travel expectations:
Approximately 25%, typically less than one week per month. - Serve as a technical liaison between internal engineering teams, customers, and external partners to ensure clear communication and alignment on system performance and deployment requirements.
- Support customer deployments, demonstrations, and field trials, providing technical expertise, troubleshooting, and feedback to improve product readiness.
- Document test procedures, results, and field observations, delivering clear and actionable reports to stakeholders and contributing to continuous product improvement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field and at least 2 years of Systems Test Engineering or related work experience.
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field and at least 1 year of Systems Test Engineering or related work experience.
- PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field.
- Hands‑on experience with cellular communication protocols (3G, 4G, or 5G).
- Familiarity with mobile operating systems, particularly Android and iOS, including device‑level testing and debugging.
- Experience using RF measurement tools, network protocol analyzers, and utilities such as Wireshark and iPerf for performance and connectivity analysis.
- Experience implementing range safety protocols and coordinating with Range Safety Officers.

Pay Range & Other Compensation & BenefitsPay range: $107,000 – $160,600 per year. In addition to base salary, compensation includes a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunities for annual RSU grants.
