- Structural Inspector I
Structural Inspector II positions perform structural inspection work on new structures, repair and/or renovation work; inspect residential and commercial structures for compliance with City and State building codes and regulations; investigate complaints of code violations; maintain records; prepare reports and correction notices; may assist in training; may check field conformance and enforce compliance to approved plans and specifications; inspect sites for practicability of plans;
and perform other duties as assigned.
- Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
- Structural Inspector II employees may be required to perform work related duties in high-rise structures.
- Structural Inspector II employees must have the ability to negotiate rough, uneven terrain, climb ladders and scaffolding, and work at heights.
You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.
EXPERIENCETwo years of full-time experience performing structural inspections as an Inspector or Licensee of a regulatory agency at a level equivalent to Structural Inspector I with the City of San Diego (a position that performs structural inspection work on new structures, repair and/or renovation work; inspects residential and commercial structures for compliance with City and State building codes and regulations; investigates complaints of code violations;
maintains records; prepares reports and correction notices).
- Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for education lacked on a year-for-year basis. One year of full-time experience = 30 semester/45 quarter college-level units.
- Possession of a contractor's license is NOT qualifying to substitute for a college degree or certificate.
- City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.
A valid International Code Council (ICC) Certificate as a Building Inspector will be required within two year from the date of hire.
LICENSEA valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of hire.
NOTE- You must provide your own vehicle to perform inspections, for which mileage will be reimbursed.
