Structural Steel Drafter

The purpose of this role is to support Teichert Solar’s Design/Build group by assisting to produce accurate, code-compliant shop and erection drawings for structural steel and miscellaneous fabrication. This role works closely with project engineers and fabrication shops to translate structural designs into detailing that supports safe, efficient, and profitable construction projects.

Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below:

• Detailing & Drafting
• Prepare shop drawings, erection drawings, and bills of material (BOM) for structural steel and miscellaneous metals using detailing software (e.g. Tekla Structures, SDS/2, AutoCAD).
• Interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and connection design criteria per AISC and AWS standards.
• Verify dimensions, connections, and material specifications before submittal.
• Perform quality checks, including self-checks and peer review, before submitting for approval.
• Coordination & Schedule
• Coordinate with Project Engineers (PEs) to resolve design conflicts and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) accurately and on time.
• Collaborate with fabrications shops to ensure drawings support efficient, accurate production.
• Track project timelines and deliver drawings on schedule, meeting customer expectations.
• Support construction and project schedule goals.
• Documentation
• Maintain project logs, files, records, and reports.
• Professionalism & Company Values
• Represent Teichert professionally and courteously with external customers and the community.
• Cooperate with other disciplines across company lines to make the best use of resources.
• Stay current on industry trends, including new detailing software, techniques, and connection standards.

• Fabricators, steel erectors, engineers of record, general contractors, inspectors, material suppliers, industry peers for networking.

• Project Managers, Project Engineers, Estimators, Purchasing, Drafting/Detailing team, Field Operations, Quality Control, and other business units.

Role Qualifications & Requirements

• Associate’s degree in drafting/CAD technology or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in structural detailing or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience.

• Successful completion of pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background investigation
• Valid Driver's License
• Proficiency in Tekla Structures, AutoCAD, or similar drawing software
• Strong knowledge of AISC standards, welding symbols, and steel connection types
• Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural blueprints
• Ability to create and maintain design standards for drawing sets, develop CAD library
• Understand specific material requirements for solar projects
• Current on all company-required safety training
• Ability to preserve confidential and proprietary information and successfully avoid conflicts-of-interest
