ASML brings together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop lithography systems that enable the world’s leading chipmakers to manufacture faster, more powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips.
As a Senior Electronics Design Engineer – PCBA Design, you will design, develop, integrate, and qualify complex Printed Circuit Board Assemblies used in ASML’s electronic control systems. You will define board-level architectures, develop schematics, guide component selection, support layout activities, and ensure robust operation in demanding semiconductor manufacturing environments. You will work closely with system architects, FPGA designers, embedded software engineers, EMC specialists, mechanical engineers, manufacturing teams, and suppliers to deliver high-reliability electronic hardware for current and future platform needs.
Roleand responsibilities
- Design and develop complex active PCBAs for electronic control systems.
- Define board-level architectures for FPGA, processor, memory, communication, and sensor-interface functions.
- Develop and maintain schematics using ASML-approved design tools and methodologies.
- Select and qualify components to meet functionality, reliability, lifecycle, EMC, and manufacturability requirements.
- Translate system and module requirements into board-level requirements, interface definitions, and implementation plans.
- Define electrical constraints for signal integrity, power integrity, EMC, grounding, shielding, and thermal performance.
- Support PCB layout reviews and guide placement, routing, stack-up, and high-speed implementation decisions.
- Perform board bring-up, verification, debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
- Support EOL redesign, PFAS replacement, and component-obsolescence mitigation activities.
- Collaborate with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and internal teams through design, prototype, qualification, and release phases for production.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, DFMEA activities, and technical decision‑making.
- Resolve field, manufacturing, and qualification issues related to board‑level design performance.
- Contribute to hardware roadmaps and next‑generation platform development.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote robust PCBA design practices.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 10 years of industry experience in electronic hardware development.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience designing complex active PCBAs for industrial, semiconductor, aerospace, medical, automotive, or similarly demanding applications.
- Demonstrated experience with FPGA, processor, memory, and high‑speed communication interfaces.
- Experience with board‑level architecture definition, schematic capture, component selection, and design verification.
- Demonstrated experience using LTspice or comparable SPICE‑based simulation tools to analyze and validate analog, mixed‑signal, and power‑electronics circuits.
- Validating simulations of high speed board design and verifying quality in the lab using iBert and other eye pattern test tools required.
- Experience supporting PCB layout activities and resolving board‑level implementation issues.
- Proven track record for successful SoC power distribution, clocking and high speed board design a must.
- Experience with board bring‑up, debugging, troubleshooting, and failure analysis.
- Experience with component lifecycle management, EOL redesign, and obsolescence mitigation.
- Experience working with contract manufacturers, board fabrication suppliers, and outsourced development partners.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary product‑development teams.
