Deputy Sheriff Cadet – Detentions/Court Services
About The Position
Newly hired Cadets attend and successfully complete a comprehensive 16‑week training academy. Upon graduation Cadets will be promoted to Deputy Sheriff – Detentions/Court Services.
Key Responsibilities
• Attend and graduate from the 16‑week academy—classroom study, examinations, and physical training.
• Apply knowledge in jail procedures, inmate classification, defensive tactics, security maintenance, and courtroom procedures.
• Participate in scheduled written examinations and background investigations.
Minimum Requirements
• 18 years of age.
• U.S. high‑school diploma, G.E.D., or a degree from an accredited U.S. college or university (attach transcript or diploma).
• Ability to carry, possess, and own a firearm.
• Meet POST and BSCC standards for peace officers and corrections personnel.
• Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
• Correct vision (20/30 uncorrected; 20/100 hard lenses minimum).
• Vision and hearing requirements per POST regulations.
Salary & Pay Incentives
• June 2026 – 5.83% increase to base pay (3.5% across‑the‑board + 2.33% market adjustment).
• June 2027 – 5.33% increase to base pay (3% across‑the‑board + 2.33% market adjustment).
• Education premium – 5%.
