OverviewThe Senior Dosimetrist designs treatment plans by means of computer and/or manual computation to deliver a prescribed radiation dose and field placement technique per the physician’s prescription to a defined tumor volume. This includes consideration of dose-limiting structures in the design of treatment. Additionally, the dosimetrist plans and documents doses in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist’s prescription. This role also provides physics and technical support to the relevant staff and faculty, including radiation protection, qualitative machine calibration, and quality assurance of radiation oncology equipment.
It involves assisting with specific dosimetry methods, including ion chamber, TLD, and film measurements as directed by the Chief Dosimetrist. The dosimetrist also assists in intracavitary and interstitial brachytherapy procedures.
- Design treatment plans to deliver prescribed radiation dose and field placement per physician’s prescription, considering dose-limiting structures.
- Plan and document doses in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist’s prescription.
- Provide physics and technical support, including radiation protection, machine calibration, and QA of radiation oncology equipment.
- Assist with dosimetry methods (ion chamber, TLD, film measurements) as directed by the Chief Dosimetrist.
- Assist in intracavitary and interstitial brachytherapy procedures.
- Certified Medical Dosimetrist issued by MDCB (CMD).
- Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience required.
- Proficient in 3D, IMRT and treatment planning.
- Familiar with the operation of linear accelerators, Simulator, and CT units.
- Knowledge of treatment planning systems and departmental R/V systems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to produce error-free calculations that do not adversely affect patient outcomes.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and problem solving in assessment, planning, and evaluation of patient care.
- Knowledge and understanding of current practices in radiation therapy, planning, and administration.
- Ability to accurately document patient care activities in accordance with institutional and cancer center guidelines.
- Excellent organizational skills to determine workload priorities for timely task completion.
- Ability to effectively communicate and work with medical staff, paramedical staff, patients and their families.
- Experience working in a training, academic environment.
- Experience with clinical trials.
- Experience with SBRT and SRS treatment planning.
