Respiratory Therapist Pt

A-Team Solutions is seeking a PRN Registered Respiratory Therapist for a contract position at the VA San Diego Health Care System. Contract is 1 year with up to 4 additional years, shifts are 10 hours, and overtime is possible. Shift need is mainly nights and weekends, but all shifts could be possible.

• Administer and monitor therapeutic medical gases including oxygen, nitric oxide, and Heliox using appropriate devices.
• Perform airway humidification using various devices, and administer inhaled medications such as bronchodilators, mucolytics and antibiotics.
• Perform lung inflation strategies, including the Meta Neb and Incentive Spirometry, and conduct limited bedside pulmonary function testing with measurements such as Vital Capacity (VC), Negative Inspiratory Force (NIF), and Minute Ventilation (Ve).
• Implement secretion clearance using high frequency oscillation and cough assist devices.
• Perform safe endotracheal, nasotracheal, and orotracheal suctioning using both open and closed systems.
• Conduct chest physiotherapy and postural drainage using manual and mechanical means.
• Set up and monitor non‑invasive ventilation devices such as CPAP, APAP, and BIPAP.
• Assist with intubation and extubation, following approved policies and procedures.
• Set up, use, monitor, and troubleshoot acute care and transport ventilators and various ventilation modes including volume, pressure, and spontaneous.
• Respond to Code Blues and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, assist with intubation, extubation, and securement of artificial airways, and respond to Rapid Response Calls, performing patient assessments and making recommendations.
• Complete bronchoscopy set‑up, assistance, and pre‑cleaning.
• Obtain sputum specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Perform arterial puncture and blood gas analysis.
• Complete home oxygen patient assessments and assist the Home Oxygen Clinic as requested.
• Provide patient and/or family education as indicated.
• Recognize when medical intervention is needed if patient safety is at risk.

• Minimum Education:
  
  Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy (RT) Program.
• Minimum Experience:
  
  1 year of experience, including critical care if working in Pulmonary.
• Required Certification:
  Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
• State Licensure:
  Respiratory Care Board of California.
• BLS and ACLS (American Heart Association).
