The Scripps Sterile Processing Technician Transition Program is a 6-month program that includes coursework and hands-on training based on the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) modules. At the end of the program, the trainee will be ready to take the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) exam. Positions at the end of the program will be full-time positions within the Sterile Processing Department (SPD).
RoleA Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for sterilizing instrumentation and equipment through a series of critical steps. This work ensures that patients avoid infections and that doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals can access the instrumentation and equipment they need immediately.
Responsibilities Sterile Processing Technicians are responsible for sterilizing instrumentation and equipment to prevent infections. They clean, package, sterilize, store, and distribute medical instruments and supplies used for patient care.
ResponsibilitiesCleaning, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical instruments, equipment, and supplies used for patient care.
Cleans and disinfects equipment requiring decontamination or sterilization according to designated principles of asepsis.
Responsible for testing and recording of sterilizer equipment performance to ensure operating within sterility standards.
Maintains established control systems for supplies and equipment processed.
Program Eligibility Requirements- Must be able to speak, read, and follow instructions in English.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
The flat rate of pay for trainees in the February 2026 SPD Transition Program will be $24.50/hr new hires/rehires must be available to start no later than 2/9/2026. Must be available to complete the entire program – class attendance is mandatory.
NOTE:
There is no paid time off (PTO) allowed during the program.

Selected Candidates:
Trainees are paid a flat hourly rate during the program and are promoted after successful completion of the program and obtainment of CRCST certification.
