Field Technician

Install and configure Ciena networking equipment, including routers, switches, and optical devices like the Ciena 6500 Packet-Optical Platform.
* Ensure proper installation of fiber optics, cabling, and hardware components to meet design and performance specifications.
* Perform software and firmware upgrades on Ciena products. Testing and Troubleshooting *

• Conduct equipment testing using tools such as OTDRs, spectrum analyzers, and light meters to verify performance and resolve issues.
  * Perform Bit Error Rate Testing (BERT) and latency checks for new and existing network deployments.
  * Diagnose and resolve issues related to physical layer connectivity, signal integrity, and optical performance. Maintenance and Optimization *
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on Ciena systems to ensure reliability and performance.
  * Monitor system performance, analyze KPIs, and implement optimization strategies to enhance network efficiency.
  * Collaborate with customers and internal teams to address escalations and service-impacting issues. Documentation and Reporting *
• Maintain detailed records of installations, configurations, and troubleshooting activities.
  * Create reports on testing results, equipment performance, and project statuses.
  * Provide feedback to engineering teams for continuous improvement of products and processes. Customer Interaction *
• Serve as the primary on-site technical contact for customers, ensuring satisfaction and clear communication.
  * Provide training and technical guidance to customers on Ciena products and tools. Compliance and Safety *
• Adhere to industry safety standards and best practices, including FCC and OSHA guidelines.
  * Ensure all installations meet regulatory compliance requirements. Qualifications
  
  Education and Experience:
  
  *
• Bachelor's degree or technical diploma in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  * 3+ years of experience in a similar field technician role, ideally with exposure to Ciena equipment. Technical
  
  Skills:
  
  *
• Hands on experience with Ciena 5164 Transport Router
  * Proficiency with Ciena systems, including the 6500 Packet-Optical Platform and Wave Logic technology.
  * Familiarity with optical transport technologies (DWDM, ROADM, SONET) and Layer 2/3 networking protocols.
  * Hands-on experience with RF and optical testing tools such as OTDR, spectrum analyzers, and light meters.
  * Hands on experience with fiber splicing, fiber testing, cabling, cable management, connector testing, new racks and power connections.
  * Hands on experience with Ethernet Testing, OTDR Testing, and Programming the Routers.
  * Basic scripting knowledge (Python, Bash) is a plus.
