Civil Litigation Legal Secretary - San Diego

BQB LLP is a growing law firm seeking an experienced Civil Litigation Legal Secretary to support our litigation practice. This is not an entry-level or administrative assistant position—successful candidates will have hands‑on experience managing litigation workflows in California state courts.

Our San Diego office supports attorneys handling matters including insurance defense, business litigation, non‑profit and ministry representation, agribusiness, commercial disputes, transportation, civil rights, construction, employment, real estate, IP, class actions, product liability, tort litigation, and more.

Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of full‑time experience as a Legal Secretary in civil litigation or insurance defense in California
  • Hands‑on experience with CA state and federal e‑filing platforms (e.g., One Legal, File & Serve, CM/ECF)
  • Working knowledge of California court rules, deadlines, and litigation procedures
  • Proven experience supporting multiple attorneys
  • Strong drafting, formatting, grammar, and communication skills
  • Must have experience formatting motions, including tables of contents and tables of authorities
  • High level of organization, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and document‑management systems
  • Ability to work onsite in our San Diego office at least two days per week
Key Responsibilities
  • Independently prepare, format, and e‑file pleadings, motions, discovery, and other litigation documents in CA state and federal courts
  • Manage complex calendars, deadlines, and reminders using court rules and internal systems
  • Maintain organized digital case files, attorney correspondence, and document databases
  • Draft and issue subpoenas and handle records requests
  • Communicate professionally with clients, court personnel, and opposing counsel
  • Provide administrative and litigation support to attorneys as needed, including answering phones, handling mailings, and performing routine office tasks
  • Pay range: $35–$41 per hour
