Position: Program Coordinator-California Workplace Outreach - 135334

Overview

The UC San Diego Labor Center is seeking a dedicated and motivated candidate to serve as the Program Coordinator/Organizer for our Imperial Valley office and worker center project. This position will be instrumental in anchoring our efforts in the Imperial Valley by coordinating outreach events, developing programs, and building strong organizational relationships within the community and with labor organizations.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Center's Executive Director, the incumbent will: identify community needs and develop innovative programs that support worker interests and organizational goals; lead the day-to-day operations of the Imperial labor center office, including the planning, execution, and evaluation of programs and initiatives that support workers and the community; organize, promote, and facilitate outreach events aimed at educating workers about their rights, resources, and available services;

collaborate with community partners to enhance event effectiveness and reach; maintain accurate records of activities and participation, and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Additionally, the incumbent will be expected to develop and maintain positive, productive working relationships with community organizations, labor unions, and key stakeholders such as the Employment Development Department (EDD), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and other partners in the Imperial Valley, as well as engage with workers and community members to mobilize support for labor rights and related social justice issues.

In summary the incumbent will:
1) use professional community educational program concepts to deliver and enhance standardized educational programs and volunteer educational programs as needed;
2) analyze program content and delivery needs to determine effectiveness of current programs and identify underrepresented constituencies in the community; and
3) participate in recruitment and outreach activities for assigned program.

Must be willing to travel and work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate community needs and events.

Qualifications
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is required.
  • Working knowledge of delivering community educational programs. Demonstrated experience in program coordination, organizing outreach events, and community engagement.
  • Working skills to produce and deliver programs. Proficiency in using technology and social media for outreach and engagement purposes.
  • Working knowledge of conducting needs assessment.
  • Working knowledge of departmental and organization policies and procedures; knowledge of educational program content and objectives. Strong knowledge of labor rights, social justice issues, and community organizing principles.
  • Working knowledge of current community education programs and trends.
  • Good analytical skills to understand how business needs can be addressed through the development and delivery of training programs.
  • Good reading, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, and good presentation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse community members and organizations.
  • Skill in using business software systems in the completion of work assignments; i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and time management skills.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $51,000 - $84,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%).

Hourly Equivalent: $24.43 - $40.61

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
