American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a PCU Float position requiring 2 years of PCU experience and the flexibility to work across multiple hospital campuses on night shift.
Details- Float pool position covering multiple PCU/IMU units across four hospital campuses (La Jolla, Hillcrest, La Mesa)
- May also float to the Emergency Department Inpatient Overflow (EDIP) unit as needed
- Patient population includes general medicine, surgical, neuro, onc, cardiac, and ortho cases
- Patient ratios: IMU 1:3, Telemetry 1:4, Medical-Surgical 1:5
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM-7:00 AM)
- EMR: EPIC; also uses Pyxis
- Schedule is provided four weeks in advance with no blocked or self-scheduling
- RN receives a phone call 2 hours before each shift confirming facility assignment
- Floating required to all PCU units and down to Medical-Surgical based on census
- May be reassigned primarily to a new East Campus unit requiring cardiology/neuro skills if it becomes active during the contract
- Active CA RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required
- Minimum 1 year of acute care experience required
- IV start, Telemetry, Phlebotomy, and A-line experience required
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- CPI Blue Card (Crisis Prevention Institute) required in-hand for all float RNs
- EPIC EMR experience required and must be reflected in work history
- Two supervisor/manager references required, including at least one from the specific unit within the last year
- Holiday coverage required for 2 of the following 3:
Christmas Eve/Day, Thanksgiving Day/after, New Year's Eve/Day - First-time travelers are accepted for this unit
- Locals accepted at the same rate as travel candidates
- Candidates will float within the hospital system or to affiliate hospitals based on census and unit needs
- Former UCSD permanent staff must have been separated for at least 1 year to return as a traveler
- Up to 7 days of RTO permitted per contract, with no RTO allowed in the first 21 days
