American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown position requiring CA licensure, travel experience, and EPIC proficiency within a multi-hospital health system float pool.
Requirements- Active CA RN license in hand at time of consideration (Temp or Perm, no EMSA)
- Current AHA certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of recent stepdown or ICU experience, with experience within the last year
- 1.5 years of continuous specialty experience without breaks, unless floating or meeting equivalent skillset requirements
- Community hospital experience required
- Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
- EPIC or combined EPIC/Cerner experience required within the last 6 months
- Travel nursing experience required, including 1 year total travel experience and 6+ months of continuous travel experience leading up to consideration
- No gaps in travel experience within the last 6 months, except for minimal pre-approved vacations or onboarding/relocation periods
- 1 supervisory-level professional reference required
- Valid copies of all required certifications required for consideration, with no pending certifications accepted
- Work in the Stepdown unit as part of a system-wide float pool across 5 hospitals
- Night shift schedule (4x12 hours, 19:00-07:30), with openings for 3x12 schedules as well
- Patient ratio of 1:3
- Required to float down to lower acuity or like units across the organization (excluding the ED)
- Required to work 4 weekend shifts within a 4-week cycle
- Required to work at least one holiday, including the holiday weekend
- Uses EPIC charting system across all units
- Provide nursing care within a stepdown/telemetry unit, including cardiac monitoring, respiratory management, and post-surgical care
- Skills may include management of chest tubes, tracheostomy care, central and peripheral line management, and titration of cardiac or vasoactive drips
- Experience with neurological, orthopedic, renal, and GI patient populations may be required depending on unit needs
- ICU, SDU, and Tele RNs are required to float at or below skillset and may occasionally float to another campus or location
- Maximum RTO of 7 days, with no additional requests after consideration
- Returning staff and travelers must wait 1 year before reapplying
- International travelers must have 1 year of recent or current U.S. experience
- First-time travelers are not considered for this role
- Candidates must reside outside a 100-mile radius of the facility to be eligible, with exceptions for LVNs/MAs
- Candidates who have been on assignment in San Diego for 9+ months are considered local and are not eligible
