Description:
This is a float pool position. The nurse will be required to float between two facilities. The patient population is high acuity, including conditions such as pneumonia, end-stage renal disease, post-cath lab care, respiratory distress, CHF, and COPD. The telemetry unit has a total of 31 beds and operates with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 to 4. Charge nurses are present on the unit to provide support.
Nurse aides are typically available, but resources may be limited. Travelers must have 2-3 years of experience, with a preference for previous travel experience. A positive attitude and compassion for patient care are essential. Nurses must be familiar with administering non-titrating drips, and experience with chest tubes is preferred. The shift schedule includes weekends and holidays, with a requirement for four weekend shifts in a four-week schedule.
Nurses are expected to engage in primary care nursing duties, and may be busy due to limited resources. Floats will rotate between units, which include telemetry and med-surg. Common patient diagnoses will include post-surgical and orthopedic cases. Nurses are expected to work 12-hour shifts with no guaranteed block scheduling. The facility operates with a continuous pharmacy and respiratory therapy available 24/7.
The charting system used in the unit is Cerner. Nurses will have the responsibility of reading telemetry strips and administering medications.
