Position: Stockroom Technician (Instructional Support Technician II)

Position Summary

San Diego State University Imperial Valley seeks a dedicated and detail‑oriented Stockroom Technician (Instructional Support Technician II) to support laboratory instruction and operations within the Sciences and Engineering Laboratories at the Brawley Campus. The technician ensures that teaching laboratories are safe, well‑organized, and fully equipped to support high‑quality instruction and student learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, distribute, and maintain laboratory materials, reagents, and equipment for teaching labs.
  • Manage laboratory lockers, student check‑outs/ check‑ins, and maintain accurate inventory and documentation.
  • Assist in coordinating and supporting undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants.
  • Calibrate, assemble, and perform minor maintenance or troubleshooting on laboratory equipment such as pH meters, centrifuges, balances, and spectrophotometers.
  • Maintain chemical hygiene and enforce safety procedures, including handling and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Monitor and restock chemical and equipment inventories; assist with receiving and storing laboratory materials.
  • Support the overall organization, cleanliness, and operational readiness of laboratory spaces.
Position Information
  • Full‑time (1.0 time‑based), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
  • Designated non‑exempt under FLSA and eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., subject to operational needs.
  • Location:

    SDSU Imperial Valley, Brawley, CA (approximately 120 miles east of the San Diego main campus).
Department Summary

The SDSU Imperial Valley Sciences and Engineering Laboratories are located in Brawley, CA, providing access to laboratory classrooms and research facilities. The department emphasizes equity and inclusion, fostering a respectful and intellectually vibrant environment for all community members.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to the specialty area to which assigned; otherwise, a college degree with relevant coursework may substitute for the required experience.

Key Qualifications
  • Experience managing a laboratory or instructional area, including orders, inventories, and material usage.
  • Experience interpreting results from scientific equipment and providing assistance to faculty and students.
  • Experience maintaining extensive collections and constructing teaching aids.
  • Experience scheduling and coordinating equipment usage to meet course needs.
Compensation and Benefits

Competition compensation and comprehensive benefits package designed to support professional growth. Step placement is determined based on qualifications and experience, aligned with department budget and equity guidelines.

  • Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 3 ($4,780) for highly qualified candidates.
  • CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,595 – $6,694 per month (Step 1 – Step 20).
  • Future increases, including step advancements, are subject to contract negotiations.
