Position Summary

San Diego State University Imperial Valley is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Stockroom Technician (Instructional Support Technician II) to support laboratory instruction and operations within the Sciences and Engineering Laboratories at the Brawley Campus. Under general supervision, the Stockroom Technician provides comprehensive technical and logistical support for a variety of lower- and upper-division laboratory courses in chemistry, electrical, and engineering disciplines.

This position ensures that teaching laboratories are safe, well-organized, and fully equipped to support high-quality instruction and student learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, distribute, and maintain laboratory materials, reagents, and equipment for teaching labs.
  • Manage laboratory lockers, student check-outs/check-ins, and maintain accurate inventory and documentation.
  • Assist in coordinating and supporting undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants.
  • Calibrate, assemble, and perform minor maintenance or troubleshooting on laboratory equipment such as pH meters, centrifuges, balances, and spectrophotometers.
  • Maintain chemical hygiene and enforce safety procedures, including handling and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Monitor and restock chemical and equipment inventories; assist with receiving and storing laboratory materials.
  • Support the overall organization, cleanliness, and operational readiness of laboratory spaces.

Position Information

  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-based), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
  • This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • This position is located at SDSU Imperial Valley in Brawley, CA, approximately 120 miles east of the San Diego main campus. The individual hired in this role will work on campus at SDSU in Brawley, CA.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to specialty area to which assigned.

or

Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

or

Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the specialty area to which assigned may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
