HC Biosciences, Inc. (San Diego), a WuXi App Tec Company, is expanding its in vitro Pharmacology. We’re seeking a highly skilled and motivated Scientist II to lead assay development projects and support target discovery and validation efforts for the HTS and assay screening group.

Responsibilities
  • Works on routine assignments per written procedures, with ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice.
  • Receives minimal instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments.
  • Works under close supervision from supervisor or senior personnel.
  • Performs support functions (e.g., Runner function) in the specified department.
  • Works in a team environment and independently as required.
  • Might be required to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as necessary.
  • Contributes to overall operations and departmental goals.
  • Performs job-specific tasks in compliance with applicable regulations, international standards, and WuXi App Tec policies and SOPs.
  • Has thorough understanding of GLP and GMP.
  • Other duties as assigned, including assistance to other departments.
Job Requirements
  • Design, implement, and perform projects for functional assay development.
  • Hands‑on experience with cell‑based assays and biochemical assays.
  • Independently develop and perform assays to evaluate biologic drug targets and candidates (GPCR, ion channels, enzymatic assays, kinase assays, etc.).
  • Develop assays in biochemical and cell‑based formats suitable for SAR screening in 96‑ or 384‑well formats.
  • Deep understanding of molecular biology and cell biology with experience in mammalian cell culture and compound handling techniques.
  • Experience with luminescence, fluorescence, absorbance, and radiometric detection preferred.
  • Scientific creativity, critical thinking, and fast‑learning capabilities.
  • Industrial drug R&D experience a plus.
  • Effective communication with internal team colleagues and external clients to promote world‑class services.
Qualifications
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience or equivalent.
  • Master’s or PhD preferred in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or Molecular Biology.
  • Strong understanding of complex scientific procedures with technical proficiency in molecular and cell biology.
  • Industry experience in Pharma/Biotech or exposure to R&D processes preferred; prior CRO commercial experience considered a strength.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills for a teamwork‑driven environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English (Mandarin).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Travel required X%, domestic/international, daily/overnight.
Physical Requirements
  • Work in office environment with minimal noise.
  • Work in lab setting with exposure to animals/biohazards/chemicals.
  • No animal allergies to applicable species.
  • Wear appropriate PPE.
  • Work in variable noise levels.
  • Stand, sit, or walk for long periods.
  • Lift up to 10 lbs routinely.
  • Crouch, bend, twist, and reach as necessary.
  • Push/pull up to 10 lbs routinely or occasionally.
  • Clarity of vision; recognize colors.
  • Perform repetitive motions.
  • Climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding.
  • Work in variable temperatures from high to freezing.
  • Indoor/outdoor working conditions.

Anticipated salary range: $80,322 to $104,000.
