Mountaineer Biosciences is a San Diego–based life sciences company that builds, advises, and invests alongside early-stage therapeutics and translational science ventures. The team is led by a biotech executive and serial founder with C-suite experience across public and private biopharma, contributions to multiple FDA-approved therapies, and more than $500M in financing raised. We work at the intersection of science, strategy, and capital, with a focus on immunology and inflammatory disease.
We are hiring a part-time Scientific and Strategy Analyst to turn scientific, market, and competitive data into clear analysis that guides company-building and investment decisions. We are looking for a scientist with business training: someone whose scientific judgment on targets, mechanisms, and clinical data drives the analysis, with commercial and financial context in support. You will work directly with the Founder on live projects: evaluating the science behind assets and companies, profiling competitors, prioritizing indications, and preparing materials for investors, partners, and boards.
This role suits a rigorous, curious scientist who wants direct exposure to biotech strategy and venture creation while keeping a flexible schedule.
Key responsibilities
· Scientific evaluation: assess the biology, mechanism of action, target validation, and translational evidence behind programs, assets, and companies under consideration.
· Literature and data review: read and synthesize primary literature, preclinical data packages, and clinical trial results; flag scientific risks and points of differentiation.
· Indication and target prioritization: compare indications and targets on biological rationale, unmet need, patient population, and development path.
· Competitive intelligence: track competitor pipelines by mechanism and modality, clinical readouts, regulatory milestones, and partnering activity; maintain organized competitor databases.
· Scientific due diligence: lead the scientific review of potential investments, in-licensing opportunities, and partners, and integrate findings with commercial considerations.
· Cross-border market intelligence: evaluate clinical trials, regulatory pipelines, and market entry hurdles across major global regions, including the US (FDA), Europe (EMA), and Asia-Pacific (NMPA, PMDA).
· Commercial context: support market sizing, comparable transactions, and basic valuation models that translate scientific findings into business decisions.
· Materials preparation: draft memos and slides for investors, boards, scientific advisory boards, grant applications, and strategic planning.
· Research operations: keep project files, source lists, and trackers organized so findings are easy to reuse and update.
