At Naval Base Point Loma (NBPL), SA-TECH provides O&M support for home‑ported Range Support Crafts (RSC) vessels, a major U.S. Navy base hosting over 70 tenant commands.

Responsibilities

SA-TECH is hiring a Vessel Captain at NBPL to oversee day‑to‑day operation and maintenance of assigned vessels.

  • Reports to Port Captain.
  • Responsible for the day‑to‑day operation and maintenance of an assigned vessel.
  • Ensures the vessel crew has adequate supplies and training for safe task execution.
  • Plans voyages and operates vessel safely in accordance with USCG requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; accurately completes required daily logs.
Work Conditions
  • Will work ashore and afloat on the RSC vessels.
  • Overtime is required.
  • Vessels may remain out at sea for multiple days in a row.
  • Operations conducted in a variety of weather conditions and sea states.
  • Normal shipboard physical activity required.
Qualifications Education/Experience/Skills
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of maritime industry experience as a Captain of a 500GT vessel (10 years preferred).
  • Demonstrable knowledge of preventive/corrective maintenance plans.
  • Previous experience on DoD contract vessels.
  • USCG License 500GT Master Upon Near Coastal Waters with valid medical certificate is required.
  • Current Driver's License required; must be insurable under company policy while driving company vehicles during work hours.
  • U.S. Citizenship required; must obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • All candidates must pass background screening (SSN, Driver Record, Criminal Background Investigation).
