Marine Electrician Superintendent - San Diego, CA

Job Description

  • The Marine Electrician Superintendent leads a marine electrical repair department, managing supervisors and technicians to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient repair and maintenance of shipboard systems. This role oversees project execution from planning through completion, provides expert technical guidance, and serves as the primary departmental representative for production, quality assurance, and customer communications. The superintendent drives repair reliability, tracks budgets and resources, and maintains strict adherence to technical standards, process control procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned personnel, including two or more supervisors, by providing clear leadership, training, mentoring, and direction to enhance repair reliability, capability, and efficiency within the department.

  • Attend production and progress meetings with customers and internal stakeholders, delivering accurate, current, and knowledgeable status updates in a clear and concise manner.

  • Track and manage budgetary impacts, including material stock ordering, allocation of personnel, and monitoring of labor and material usage against project budgets.

  • Schedule and/or serve as the departmental representative during required quality assurance checkpoints, ensuring work meets all technical and regulatory standards.

  • Write detailed Condition Found Reports that clearly document inspection and test results, discrepancies, and recommendations necessary to restore systems and components to proper operating condition.

  • Read, interpret, and comprehend work specifications, technical manuals, standards, and drawings to plan and direct repair and installation activities.

  • Complete required reporting processes, including schedule updates and Test and Inspection Plan (T.I.P.) documentation, to keep projects on track and stakeholders informed.

  • Interpret and perform work in strict accordance with designated Process Control Procedures (PCPs), ensuring consistency, safety, and compliance.

  • Conduct interviews, performance reviews, coaching, and disciplinary actions for assigned personnel in alignment with established company guidelines.

  • Provide subject matter expert-level guidance on trade-specific repairs for shipboard systems, including electrical components and related equipment.

  • Perform expert-level troubleshooting of shipboard systems and equipment to diagnose issues and ensure proper operation.

  • Oversee and support electrical troubleshooting, installation, and repairs on marine vessels, ensuring high-quality workmanship and adherence to specifications.

  • Review and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, schematics, and technical manuals to direct crews and verify the correct execution of work.

  • Collaborate with other departments and trades to coordinate work, resolve conflicts, and maintain efficient project workflows.

  • Ensure compliance with NAVSEA Standard Items, OSHA standards, and internal safety policies throughout all phases of work.

  • Utilize general computer skills and Microsoft Office applications to manage documentation, reports, schedules, and communication.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support department operations and project success.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the marine and/or shipyard industry.

  • Expert-level knowledge of trade-specific marine electrical repair procedures and shipboard systems.

  • Demonstrated experience in management roles, including leading teams, supervising supervisors, and resolving conflicts.

  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, schematics, technical manuals, and work specifications.

  • Expert-level electrical troubleshooting skills for shipboard systems and equipment.

  • Proven experience with electrical installation and repair in a marine or shipyard environment.

  • Demonstrated familiarity with NAVSEA Standard Items.

  • Demonstrated familiarity with OSHA standards and safety requirements in industrial and shipyard settings.

  • General computer proficiency, including the ability to use standard office software.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (such as Word, Excel, and Outlook).

  • Ability to accurately prepare Condition Found Reports and other technical documentation.

  • Strong communication skills for conveying technical information and project status to customers and internal teams.

  • Ability to attend and contribute effectively to production and progress meetings.
