Pay Range$23.90/hr – $31.43/hr
SummaryThis Case Manager II is specific to Bishop Maher Center Women’s Interim Shelter (BMC) focusing on housing and income. The role assists the Supervisor in leading a caseload within the Interim Housing program, developing professional and empathetic relationships with clients, and creating plans to achieve self‑sufficiency. The manager actively participates in client housing searches, application processes, landlord advocacy, and all steps of the lease‑up process.
EssentialFunctions
- Manages a diverse caseload and provides ongoing intensive support and guidance to clients through weekly case‑management meetings.
- Provides interventions related to housing and maintains strong relationships with housing providers to promote affordable housing options for homeless clients.
- Creates individualized care plans incorporating coordinated services within the organization’s health clinic, residential, social services, and community resources; updates plans every 90 days.
- Offers intensive support including crisis intervention, benefits applications, education, advocacy, and other supportive services.
- Travels with clients to appointments or into new housing.
- Coordinates and facilitates client orientation, meetings, and community‑building events.
- Assesses clients for employment, social security, and disability insurance eligibility; gathers records, completes benefits applications, provides referrals, schedules services, and monitors progress.
- Completes monthly budgets and savings reviews.
- Prepares and presents client interactions and case plans; participates as a member of the multidisciplinary services team that prepares client case presentations to funders.
- Utilizes a strength‑based/trauma‑informed approach, motivational interviewing techniques, and CREED to encourage positive change.
- Maintains a database of permanent housing information: vacancies, eligibility, rents, waiting lists, locations, and sizes.
- Enrolls clients into the system and updates records every 30 days.
- Completes assigned training and policy requirements on time.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Services or related field, or equivalent experience, plus one year of applicable job experience.
- At least 12 months of experience working with underserved populations, case planning, and completing assessments in a social service setting.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (required).
- Demonstrated basic understanding of Housing First, Trauma‑Informed Care, Conflict Resolution, Motivational Interviewing, Low‑Barrier Operations, Prevention and Diversion practices, eviction prevention, and crisis intervention.
- Knowledge of the housing market in San Diego and surrounding areas.
- Ability to foster productive relationships with landlords, funding sources, and internal departments.
- Basic proficiency in MS Office.
- Must be able to pass a background check and fingerprint upon employment.
- Must participate in an annual Tuberculosis screening and/or other necessary screenings.
