Principal Engineer

About the role

We’re looking for a hands-on Principal Engineer to build, troubleshoot and deliver complex software while guiding technical direction. You’ll work across Java and Spring services, distributed systems, cloud platforms and modern engineering practices, balancing technical depth with long-term maintainability.

• Design, build and improve service-oriented and distributed applications.
• Make architecture and implementation decisions with clear reasoning about technology choices and tradeoffs.
• Design for resiliency, stability, observability, security, operational readiness and maintainability.
• Work with event-driven and streaming technologies such as Kafka.
• Collaborate with product and engineering peers in Agile and Dev Ops environments.
• Coach engineers, provide constructive feedback and help improve team performance.
• Identify technical risks and opportunities, and follow issues through to resolution.
• Explore AI-enabled engineering approaches while maintaining strong engineering discipline.

• 8+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including principal, staff, architect or senior lead-level technical scope.
• Deep hands-on Java development experience and strong knowledge of the Spring ecosystem.
• Experience designing service-oriented and distributed applications.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or comparable event-driven or streaming technologies.
• Experience with relational data platforms;
  PostgreSQL experience is preferred.
• Strong cloud engineering experience in GCP, AWS or Azure.
• Experience designing for resiliency, observability, security and operational readiness.
• Experience in Agile product delivery and Dev Ops environments.
• Practical use of AI-enabled development tools beyond basic chat, such as agentic coding or workflow automation.
• Strong collaboration, coaching and technical communication skills.

• GCP experience.
• AlloyDB experience.
• Experience with React or Angular.
