The Position

The role of the Clinical Social Worker is to provide the mental health needs of the STRTP residents and their families within the community. In collaboration with the case manager, the clinician liaises with families and county workers to develop treatment plans, provide progress updates, and schedule core family therapy sessions and treatment conferences as needed.

Compensation and Benefits

Qualifications
  • A master’s degree in social work, social welfare, marriage, family and child counseling, child psychology, child development, counseling psychology, or social psychology from an accredited or state‑approved graduate school.
  • Valid registration or license with the Board of Behavioral Sciences (ACSW, AMFT, LCSW, LMFT, APCC, LPCC).
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Completion of at least three semester units or 100 days of field practice or experience in a public or private social service agency at the master’s level.
  • At least nine semester units of coursework related to children and families, or 18 months of experience working with children and families.
  • At least three semester units in working with minority populations or six months of experience, or in‑service training within the first year of employment.
  • At least three semester units in child welfare, or two years’ experience in a public or private child welfare social services setting.
  • Prior mental health service experience strongly preferred.
  • Prior Department of Mental Health (DMH) mental health experience preferred.
Other Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other office‑related software.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail oriented and organized.
  • Independent and able to organize multiple projects with minimum supervision.
  • Team member and collaborative.
  • Maintains highest level of confidentiality and professional boundaries with clients and staff.
  • Professional representation of the agency to all constituencies.
  • Bi‑Lingual (Spanish) highly preferred.
Physical Skills
  • Must pass pre‑employment physical exam, TB and drug screening.
  • Ability to commute to various sites on and off campus.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and kneel.
  • Ability to lift 10 pounds.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the coordinator of care for the assigned caseload.
  • Provide mental health services including day rehab, family therapy, individual counseling, and specialized groups as needed.
  • Consult with an interdisciplinary team for initial assessments and treatment needs; coordinate with Residential Counselor staff to determine ongoing treatment needs and evaluate strategies.
  • Meet with each child for individual therapy at a minimum of one hour weekly or as indicated.
  • Meet with each child’s family/caregiver as indicated.
  • Plan, implement, and provide mental health services to clients.
  • Initiate and maintain contacts with parents/caregivers, establishing a therapeutic relationship aimed at reunification or other appropriate treatment goals. Provide parents/caregivers with information regarding child’s progress; arrange home passes and follow‑up on outcome of visits with county workers agreement.
