General Description of Duties
Seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Flavor Trainee to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to utilize a degree in food science or a related field and/or significant hands-on experience in a flavor or food lab setting. This position will assist in the development and preparation of flavors under the supervision of the Senior Flavor Chemist. This entry-level role is ideal for candidates with a strong interest in flavor development.
The Flavor Trainee will be in charge of formula compounding, sensory, analytical and follow up documentation of flavors. General lab duties in flavor development lab, compounding, raw material procurement, management and restocking as needed. This individual must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in ways that foster good relationships with those inside and outside the company, while achieving and enhancing performance standards.
EssentialJob Functions
- Ability to compound simple to complex formulas with speed and accuracy while maintaining lab safety and proper PPE. Basic flavor modifications with substitution of raw materials, diluents or attribute change.
- Ability to compound simple liquid blends, emulsions and spray dried flavors.
- Understand and utility of the following equipment: density meter, pH meter, overhead stirrers, high shear mixer, homogenizer and spray dryer.
- Creation of technical documentation as needed.
- BS degree in food science, chemistry, or related disciplines.
- Minimum 1-3 years’ experience in a flavor lab, or other product development experience.
- Detail oriented, and good organizational skills.
- Collaborate and cooperate in a team environment.
- Must be able to work in a production and lab environment.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally or as needed.
- Mobility:
Walking, standing, sitting, stooping, climbing, or bending. - Lifting and Carrying:
The weight of objects that must be lifted, carried, pushed, or pulled.
