Accounting Manager

Accounting Manager Our client, an established construction & architectural services company, is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead and strengthen its internal accounting operations.

Location:

This role is hybrid in San Francisco. On-site attendance is expected approximately 3 to 4 days per week during the initial onboarding period, transitioning to approximately 2 to 3 days per week once established.

Job Description:

This hands-on role will oversee the full accounting cycle, improve the month-end close, and partner with operational leaders to ensure accurate project and financial reporting. The ideal candidate brings construction accounting experience, understands how billing, payroll, job costing, and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting connect, and is motivated to improve processes within a growing organization. Responsibilities:
Lead the monthly close process and improve the timeliness, accuracy, and consistency of financial reporting Oversee general ledger accounting, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules Manage construction accounting activities, including project billing, job costing, work-in-progress reporting, and project-level financial analysis Ensure accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash activity are accurately recorded and integrated into the close Partner with project managers and operational leaders to review project performance, investigate variances, and resolve accounting issues Prepare financial reports and provide clear insights into project costs, profitability, cash flow, and overall business performance Coordinate with external accounting, payroll, tax, and audit providers while bringing greater ownership of accounting activities in-house Develop and improve accounting policies, internal controls, documentation, and scalable workflows Evaluate opportunities to use technology and automation to improve accounting efficiency and reporting quality Supervise and develop an accounting team member while remaining actively involved in day-to-day execution Requirements:
Progressive accounting experience with significant responsibility for the full-cycle month-end close Construction or project-based accounting experience, including job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and project billing Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and financial reporting Demonstrated ability to improve accounting processes, shorten close timelines, and strengthen internal controls Hands-on leadership and business-partnering skills, with the ability to work effectively with accounting staff, project managers, and senior leadership Compensation:
