Position: Promotive Only - Airport Communications Supervisor (9204) Citywide (161378)

Overview

Promotive Only - Airport Communications Supervisor (9204) Citywide (161378) — Full-time Civil Service position. This is a promotional recruitment restricted to current permanent civil service employees.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise Senior Airport Communications Dispatchers and other subordinate staff; oversee daily operations of a 24/7 public safety communications center, dispatch services, and customer service.
  • Maintain radios, public address system, and other communication equipment; direct testing of the Airport Central Alarm System; monitor elevator, garage, fire, and parking-lot hold-up alarm systems.
  • Represent the airport department in presenting and proposing design changes or additions to the communication system; prepare initial drafts of specifications for new communication equipment.
  • Develop and administer training programs and standard operating procedures; prepare and conduct performance evaluations; recommend corrective or disciplinary actions.
  • Oversee maintenance of records and statistics of emergencies; maintain confidentiality of information; prepare, present, and maintain departmental reports; conduct investigations of staff-related complaints and document findings.
  • Assist in budget preparation for the communications section; attend meetings or trainings and work on special projects.
  • May drive a vehicle during mobilization and evacuation to transport personnel and equipment to a backup site.
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Current Permanent Civil Service City Employee in Class 9203, who passed probation.
  • Education:

    Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D. or High School Proficiency Examination).
  • Experience:

    Four (4) years of verifiable experience as a public safety dispatcher in a multi-frequency computerized dispatch/communications center, including two (2) years of supervisory experience equivalent to Class 9203 Senior Airport Communications Dispatcher.
  • License and Certification:
    Possession and maintenance of a valid POST (Peace Officers Standards and Training) certificate and a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
  • Substitution: Completion of a twelve (12) month program equivalent to the City and County of San Francisco's Airport Communications Dispatcher Trainee Program may substitute for one (1) year of the required work experience.

    Special Requirements: Special qualifications including knowledge, abilities, education, experience, or license may be established for individual positions.
