Position Summary

The Y-Kids Program Leader is responsible for the achievement of the mission, goals, and objectives of the YMCA through the Youth and/or Member Services Department. The primary focus is the delivery of high‑quality, interactive program activities for children ages 12 weeks to 12 years old. Y‑Kids is a space where children can learn, grow, engage in creative activities, and overall feel welcome. Our goal is to ensure children always feel comfortable and safe.

This position also maintains a safe, clean site and establishes a positive relationship with all program participants, their families, and branch members. The Y-Kids Program Leader models YMCA standards and the “Character Counts” philosophy. Other responsibilities include planning and implementing all daily activities for the participants.

Job Responsibilities Professional Conduct & Relationships
  • Arrive on time for all shifts.
  • Greet parents and children as they arrive; make an effort to learn their names.
  • Introduce yourself to new and prospective members, and share information about the Y‑Kids Program and other youth programs.
  • Treat all children equally, without showing favoritism.
  • Respond positively to directions and accept constructive feedback from supervisors.
  • Demonstrate the YMCA core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all interactions with members, guests, volunteers, and staff.
Program & Childcare Responsibilities
  • Set up and break down the space appropriately, ensuring all items are stored properly and the area remains safe.
  • Promote YMCA HEPA standards by encouraging children to eat snacks together and fostering a sense of community.
  • Assist children with bathroom needs and change diapers as required.
  • Acknowledge parents during pick‑up, share any important updates, and ensure each child is properly logged out.
Training & Development
  • Complete all mandatory ADP LMS safety training and Y-USA e‑Learning prior to your first shift.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and trainings.
  • Exhibit competencies and a willingness to grow in the Cause‑Driven Leadership areas:
    Advancing our Mission and Cause, Building Relationships, Leading Operations, and Developing & Inspiring Others.
Organizational Participation & Compliance
  • Participate in site, department, branch, and association events.
  • Uphold YMCA policies regarding safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Available to work mornings, afternoons, and/or some weekends.
  • Experience working with youth is a plus but not required.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
