Job Description:Overview:
Azul Works, Inc. is a union general engineering contractor in San Francisco, established in 2000. We are seeking a Project Engineer to support civil and general engineering projects across the Bay Area, including sitework, underground utilities, concrete, paving, and electrical. We self-perform a full range of heavy civil work, from water storage tanks and public infrastructure to public parks, plazas, playgrounds, and streetscapes.
Our clients include Bay Area municipalities, BART, Sam Trans, Caltrans, Tesla, and many of the region’s leading general contractors. We are proud to be a certified WBE, MBE, and SBE firm.
We work as both a general contractor and a subcontractor, so our Project Engineers get a range of experience that larger firms often can’t offer. That includes hands on exposure to self‑perform work alongside higher‑level project management, on both public and private projects. You’ll also get direct mentorship from our leadership and senior project managers. As we expand, there are clear opportunities for advancement, including at our recently opened Napa office.
Key Responsibilities:- Help manage projects from inception to completion, including plans, specifications, and blueprints.
- Handle RFIs, submittals, ASIs, change orders, payment applications, and project close‑outs.
- Coordinate contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants.
- Maintain project schedules, budgets, and cost tracking.
Prepare reports, budget‑to‑actual comparisons, and special project analyses. - Ensure projects meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships.
- Help develop and review project budget reports and client invoices.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; construction management or engineering experience required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the construction industry, with project experience in heavy construction preffered. We value hands on expereince just as much.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office, Bluebeam, and project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
- Highly organized and comfortable supporting multiple projects or tasks at once.
- Able to work independently and carry a project's documentation from start through closeout.
- Full‑time, in‑person position based at our main office at 1400 Egbert Avenue, San Francisco, with regular visits to job sites across the Bay Area.
- Typical hours:
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
- Competitive industry pay, determined by experience.
