Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY

Anderson Pacific Engineering Construction, Inc. (APEC) is seeking an experienced Superintendent for a public works renovation project in San Francisco involving electrical switchboard replacement, UPS replacement, HVAC upgrades, temporary power, phased shutdowns, testing, and commissioning.

APEC will subcontract most of the physical construction work on this project. The Superintendent will be responsible for day-to-day field coordination of subcontractors, site logistics, schedule execution, safety, quality, access, and shutdown/cutover activities and will report to the Project Manager.

This position is intended to be a long-term role with APEC. Following completion of this project, the successful candidate should be capable of transitioning into more traditional Anderson Pacific projects involving heavy civil construction, water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, underground utilities, concrete, mechanical piping, electrical systems, and related public works construction.

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Coordinate and supervise all subcontractors and field activities.

  • Manage daily work sequencing and three-week look-ahead planning.

  • Coordinate electrical, HVAC, controls, fire alarm, generator, and other trades.

  • Lead field execution of shutdowns, temporary power, cutovers, testing, and commissioning.

  • Coordinate access, inspections, and daily activities with the owner and facility operations staff.

  • Identify and resolve field conflicts and trade coordination issues.

  • Monitor subcontractor manpower, progress, safety, and quality.

  • Maintain daily reports and field documentation.

  • Support the Project Manager with RFIs, changes, schedule issues, and subcontractor performance.

  • Assist with punch list, startup, training, and closeout.

  • Promptly communicate field conflicts, changed conditions, and schedule risks to the Project Manager.

  • Lead jobsite safety, quality, and environmental compliance, complying with, understanding, and supporting corporate safety, quality, and environmental initiatives to ensure a compliant work environment.

  • Following this project, supervise traditional APEC self-perform and subcontracted work on heavy civil and water/wastewater projects.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency.

Minimum Skills and Work Experience:

  • Twenty (20) of experience as a construction superintendent.

  • At least two similar building renovation or new construction projects completed within the last five years.

  • At least one project valued at $4 million or more involving three or more subcontracted trades.

  • Experience working in a 24/7 operating critical facility, such as a hospital, public safety facility, data center, or qualifying water/wastewater treatment facility.

  • Strong field leadership, planning, coordination, safety, and communication skills.

  • Ability to read plans and specifications and coordinate multiple trades.

Ideal Experience

We are especially interested in candidates with a mix of experience in:

  • Water and wastewater treatment facilities

  • Pump stations and mechanical/process piping

  • Heavy civil and underground utility construction

  • Concrete construction

  • Electrical and HVAC upgrades

  • Occupied or critical-facility renovations

  • Temporary power and planned shutdowns

  • Managing both subcontracted and self-perform crews

This is primarily a field leadership and coordination role. For the initial project, the Superintendent will manage experienced specialty subcontractors. Longer term, the role should fit naturally into APEC’s typical work, including projects with significant self-perform construction.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

To successfully carry out the essential duties of this position, an employee must meet the physical requirements outlined here.…
