Head of Production

Monitoring the Situation (MTS) is hiring a Head of Production to lead its video production operation in San Francisco. This role will own the people and production infrastructure behind MTS’s video content, with a particular focus on building and leading a strong local production team. The ideal candidate brings an established network of production talent in the San Francisco Bay Area and can tap into that network to hire and assemble the right crew.

MTS is looking for a hands-on, technically fluent production leader who is comfortable operating in a team that embraces new technology and AI. This person should combine strong leadership with a modern approach to video production and be excited to continually explore new tools, technology, and workflows.

• Lead video and production operations across MTS content.
• Build, hire, and manage a high-quality production crew in San Francisco.
• Leverage an established Bay Area network to identify strong production and technical talent.
• Oversee production workflows from pre-production through recording and delivery.
• Establish production standards, processes, and workflows that maintain consistent quality.
• Lead studio and on-set production while providing clear direction to technical and creative teams.
• Partner with technical team members on cameras, lighting, audio, streaming, and studio production needs.
• Evaluate and introduce new production technology, AI tools, and workflows where they can improve the operation.

• Significant experience leading video, broadcast, studio, podcast, or digital media production.
• Proven experience hiring, building, and leading production teams.
• Strong network of production professionals in San Francisco and the broader Bay Area.
• Strong understanding of cameras, lighting, audio, studio equipment, and multi-camera production.
• Experience overseeing both live and recorded video production workflows.
• Strong technical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot production challenges quickly.
• Comfortable working with highly technical teams and making decisions about production equipment, systems, and workflows.
• Strong interest in emerging technology, AI, and new approaches to video production.
• Hands-on leadership style with the ability to set a high standard for production quality while keeping teams moving efficiently.
• Comfortable working on content involving technology, culture, current events, and differing political perspectives.
