DENTAL ASSISTANT – MARIN CITY HEALTH & WELLNESS CENTER
Under the supervision of the Dentist, the Dental Assistant will provide dental treatment to patients of Marin City Health & Wellness Center (MCHWC). The assistant must demonstrate strong communication skills, build rapport with patients and families, and show sensitivity to the diverse needs of the Marin City community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Proficient in all phases of 4‑handed dental assisting for prosthodontics, periodontics, oral surgery, preventative, restorative, and diagnostic procedures.
- Familiar with dental terminology, medication, and instruments used during the above procedures.
- Perform expanded duties to the extent permitted by law.
- Clean and sterilize instruments after treatment.
- Help patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment.
- Teach patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies, including tooth brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling.
- Maintain the dental supply inventory and keep operatory and laboratory clean and organized.
- Use motivational interviewing and caries‑risk assessment tools.
- Present treatment plans to patients and assist with referrals and follow‑up appointments.
- Maintain current licensure through continuing education and sign up for mandatory meetings.
- Take digital radiographs and record examination findings in the Open Dental EHR.
- Coordinate lab cases with labs, ensuring timely pickup, delivery, and proper tracking.
- Perform laboratory duties as instructed by the Dentist, e.g., pouring models.
- Provide administrative support to the Dentist and attend required staff meetings and trainings.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all privacy policies, regulations, and requirements.
- Demonstrate punctuality, regular attendance, and a professional attitude and appearance.
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- Graduation from an accredited Dental Assisting School preferred or minimum two years recent experience as an RDA.
- Valid CA RDA license and RDA certification.
- X‑ray license.
- CPR training current;
Basic CPR (BCLS) certification. - Completion of CE courses current.
- Positive attitude, teamwork, and ability to take direction from supervisor.
- Understanding and promotion of MCHWC mission, vision, and values.
- Sensitivity to needs and situations of a multicultural population from a variety of income levels.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and provide excellent customer service, handling dissatisfied patients respectfully.
- Experience in a dental office setting or FQHC setting.
- Excellent organizational, written, and verbal skills.
- English proficiency required.
- Spanish proficiency preferred.
