Location: San Francisco, CA, United States

We are seeking a full‑time Anatomic Pathologist to join the Department of Pathology at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Health Care System (SFVAHCS) in partnership with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). The position involves clinical service, research, and teaching with a primary focus on surgical pathology, cytopathology, and autopsy.

• Sign out surgical pathology, cytopathology, autopsy, frozen sections, and inpatient/outpatient fine‑needle aspiration biopsies
• Perform rapid on‑site adequacy assessments (ROSE)
• Provide night and weekend call coverage
• Present and discuss cases at tumor boards, interdepartmental conferences, and committees
• Engage in quality improvement, including review of standard operating procedures and accreditation compliance
• Participate in laboratory information system (LIS) modernization and digital pathology initiatives as opportunities arise

• Provide instruction and mentorship to residents, fellows, and medical students
• Develop and conduct educational projects and tumor board presentations
• Maintain active research program with publications, grants, and presentations
• Demonstrate expertise in digital pathology, molecular pathology, and laboratory informatics preferred

• MD or equivalent medical degree
• Licensed to practice in California (or another state)
• Board certified (or eligible at time of hire) in Anatomic Pathology
• Completed fellowship in Surgical Pathology or Cytopathology (or equivalent independent sign‑out experience)
• Additional subspecialty training (e.g., Gastrointestinal/Hepatobiliary Pathology) preferred but not required
• Demonstrated research publications, teaching experience, and strong communication skills
• Current and pending qualifications must be listed on application materials

The position is a faculty appointment at UCSF at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the HS Clinical or Clinical X series. Salary will be commensurate with experience and training and will include health sciences compensation plan benefits. Full‑time appointments may receive additional recruitment/relocation incentives and debt‑repayment programs as outlined in the posting.
