Family Medicine Urgent Care Physician – San Francisco
Join the University of California, San Francisco as a Family Medicine Urgent Care Physician. The UCSF Urgent Care Physician will provide direct patient care to patients of all ages in the newly remodeled UCSF acute care clinic on Parnassus and the newly constructed Bayfront Urgent Care, which opened in August 2024. A full‑time appointment will involve 36 hours of direct patient care per week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, with competency in video tele‑health encounters required.
All shifts are equitably divided among the Urgent Care clinicians.
- The Urgent Care Clinician will spend most of their time providing acute clinical care to UCSF patients.
- Precept and mentor Advanced Practice Providers who work in the urgent care clinics.
- Actively participate in the implementation of the UCSF Lean Healthcare system.
- Provide bedside teaching for house staff and medical students when needed.
- Be available to provide cross‑coverage for Urgent Care clinical shifts due to illness, conferences, and vacations.
- Review and respond to quality concerns raised by patient relations and risk management.
- Review lab and radiology results generated in the clinic, and partner with nursing and Care Coordinators to provide appropriate follow‑up.
- Participate in True North and clinic huddle rounds.
- Complete documentation in a timely way in accordance with UCSF policy.
- Complete all required onboarding training within 30 days of the start date.
Full‑time salary: $300,000.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- MD or DO degree and completion of an accredited family medicine (or internal medicine/pediatrics, or emergency medicine) residency program.
- Valid DEA license.
- Board certification in Family Medicine (internal medicine/pediatrics, or emergency medicine considered).
- Valid medical license in the State of California.
- Strong problem‑solving, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Capacity to establish and maintain constructive relationships with patients, clinical staff, managers, and senior leaders.
- Excellent facilitation, consensus‑building, and negotiation skills in complex organizational settings.
- Ability to role model excellence in delivery of acute care services.
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, written, organizational, analytical, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated skill in ambulatory urgent care and provision of care to diverse populations.
- Proficiency in acute care procedures such as:
- I & D of abscesses
- Laceration repair
- Splinting
- Genitourinary exams
- Wound care
- Burn treatment
- Point‑of‑care ultrasound
- Large joint aspiration and injection
- Willingness to become proficient in additional ambulatory acute care procedures as clinic scope expands.
- Skill in following UCSF Infection Control practices, including donning and doffing of PPE, specimen handling, and handwashing.
- Commitment to patient‑centric equitable medical care.
- California Medical License.
- Board Certified/Eligible in Family Medicine or Med/Peds.
