Position Overview
The International School of San Francisco is a PK-12 independent school located in San Francisco, founded in 1962. It offers programs in French and English and serves an almost 1,100‑student multicultural community. The Preschool/Maternelle (Grade PK2‑PK4) Teacher’s Assistant will work full‑time (35 hours per week) through the remainder of the 2025‑2026 school year, supporting both French and English preschool teachers and contributing to the holistic development of young learners.
Key Responsibilities- Assist French and/or English teachers in delivering daily classroom activities that follow best practices in child development and align with the curriculum, inclusive of the Positive Discipline program and school culture.
- Supervise students continuously during class time, bathroom time (including toileting and diaper changes), lunch, transitions, and recess; foster independence, self‑esteem, and self‑discipline.
- Help with diaper changes and toilet training as required.
- Observe each child to gauge skills, interests, and needs, then use that information to inform instruction and support growth.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and inviting classroom environment that supports optimal child development.
- Intervene calmly and safely to protect children from accidents or injury and respond effectively in any emergency.
- Build positive relationships with each child’s family.
- Perform additional duties such as extended‑care staffing before or after school, vacation camps, or child‑care when requested.
- Proficiency in both French and English.
- Experience working with young children (ages 2‑5).
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Certification in early childhood education, or currently working toward completion (minimum 6 units, 12 a plus).
- CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Physical ability to care for a group of children independently.
- Awareness of the unique needs of young children and realistic expectations of their abilities.
- Capacity to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 70 lbs.
- Strong work ethic, punctuality, and minimal absences.
- Collaboration skills for working positively with multiple colleagues in a teaching team.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
$60,212 – $103,247, dependent upon experience and qualifications.
