POSITION DESCRIPTION

The MYEEP Academic Mentor will be responsible for facilitating workshops for program participants. Mentors are expected to also engage in group tutoring sessions as well as provide high quality one on one academic support for program participants. This is a part-time, average 19 hours a week, (3-4 days) in-person position from September to May. During the Fall semester students will engage in the Academic Mentor Program as well as job readiness training while they attend school.

During the Spring semester, the academic mentor will provide individual or small-group tutorial support and personalized academic Workshops. The Academic Mentor reports directly to the Academic Mentor Program Coordinator and works closely with their MYEEP coordinator and their CIT.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support youth program participates aged 14-16 in improving their overall academic performance
  • Monitor and facilitate tutoring groups of up to 15-25 participants across various subjects
  • Create, lead and facilitate weekly academic-focused workshops, by curating activities and facilitating engaging workshops and personalized tutoring sessions designed to enhance participants' knowledge and skills
  • Practice Classroom management and behavioral management with high school aged youth
  • Monitor and maintain accurate attendance records from tutorial sessions and other vital documentation
  • Attend Weekly/Bi-Weekly Meetings with Coordinators and Academic Mentor Program Coordinator/Central Staff
  • Proficient in ADP and updating timecards in a timely manner
  • Utilize Salesforce database to track and input participant grades throughout the school year
  • Establish effective communication channels with participants, Coordinators, school administrators, teachers, counselors, and parents/guardians to gather essential reports, progress updates, and report cards
  • Support various MYEEP-related trainings and events, including DCYF, MYEEP Worksite supervisor trainings, Work Hub in SF, Cal Day, etc
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of sensitive participant data, primarily using Salesforce and ADP platforms

ESSENTIAL

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Available 4-5 days/week, Monday – Friday during after school hours (approx. 2:30pm - 6:30 p.m.)
  • High school diploma/GED or higher
  • Ability to travel/commute to one of the following 10 San Francisco locations: (Visitacion Valley, Chinatown, Bayview, Mission, Tenderloin, Fillmore, Richmond, Sunset, Bernal Heights, OMIE-Ocean Mission Ingleside Excelsior)
  • Experience working with high school youth with various backgrounds, orientations and beliefs
  • Proficient in High School Subject matters
  • Ability to build and foster organic relationships with students - their interests, hobbies, strengths, etc
