Associate Infant/Toddler Teacher

The Associate Infant/Toddler Teacher will guide children throughout the day, assist in providing quality, comprehensive child development services to preschool children and their families, and encourage parental involvement in educational planning, goal setting and center activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Interacting with Children
    • Facilitates interactions and learning experiences individually or in small groups to ensure optimal engagement for young children during activities, transitions, and personal care routines.
    • Prioritizes adult‑child interactions, personal care routines, classroom environment, and familial cultural practices to develop intentional, child‑led learning.
    • Facilitates center team support for the provision of specialized services for children with identified special needs in the classroom.
    • Follows written policies and procedures for personal care routines such as feeding, diapering, toileting, hand‑washing, and safe sleep.
    • Uses CSEFEL strategies to guide children’s behavior with an emphasis on co‑regulation strategies to assist children with managing strong emotions and behaviors.
    • Prioritizes health and safety of children at all times, demonstrating a strong understanding of adult‑child ratios and active supervision strategies.
  • Assessing Children
    • Observes children in all developmental domains and documents observations according to policy and procedures within the identified timelines.
    • Conducts 45‑day developmental screenings and three developmental assessments (DRDP‑2015) for each child.
    • Ensures that the timelines of 30, 45, and 90 days are met upon enrollment dates (e.g., home visits, mental health notes, developmental screenings, ASQ‑3, ASQ‑SE, transition plans, and vision & hearing screenings).
  • Curriculum Preparation
    • Develops curriculum plans with experiences based on children’s emerging interests and developmental stages using the Program for Infant/Toddler Care (PITC) guidelines.
    • Creates and implements developmentally appropriate experiences tailored to children’s interests and needs.
    • Develops Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) for each child based on observations, screenings, parent input, and the DRDP‑2015 assessment results.
    • Aligns curriculum plans and experiences with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework and CA Infant/Toddler Learning and Development Foundations.
  • Communication with Parents
    • Collaborates with Family Support Specialists to support families in managing specific needs, advocating for parents, and encouraging parent involvement in the program.
    • Partners with families on incorporating children’s home cultural practices/traditions in the classroom, promoting diversity and inclusivity.
    • Informs parents about daily classroom routine, expectations, policies, and volunteer opportunities.
    • Communicates with parents about incidents observed and recorded on‑site regarding their child.
    • Encourages and motivates parents to participate in all levels of the Head Start Program (e.g., classroom center committees, Parent‑Teacher Conferences, Policy Council, and other district and/or city‑wide committees).
  • Supervision
    • Assists volunteers and parents in working with children in the classroom with proper health practices, food handling, and child supervision.
    • Works closely with teachers to ensure the well‑being and safety of all children.
    • Counts children during and after transitions, communicates, and documents on board.
    • Understands emergency/safety procedures.
  • Administration
    • Ensures maintenance and filing of appropriate forms and documents in children’s files.
    • Assists in performing height and weight measurements of the children twice a year according to policy and procedure.
    • Completes monthly meal counts and daily attendance records for the Childcare Food Program according to MNC policies and procedures.
    • Tracks and completes daily forms including infant/toddler daily information form, infant safe‑sleep checklist, and other health and safety related documentation.
