Thisis aTemporary Exempt Category 17 position limited to no more than two (2) years in duration. Category 17 employees are used to backfill a Permanent Civil Service (PCS) employee on a leave of absence. This position is exempt from Civil Service and shall serve at the discretion of the Department Head.

Under general supervision, performs advanced professional librarian work; supervises the operations of the Portola Branch Library; supervises activities of subordinate personnel;
Responsible for interpreting, enforcing and carrying out assigned duties within the framework of established methods and procedures; making regular contacts with the general public, outside organizations and library personnel in connection with library activities and operations; and maintaining a continued awareness of current reading trends and literature. Plan and conduct library programs to meet community needs; and may be assigned responsibility for a special projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Supervises all operations, staff, collections, supplies and facilities in accordance to library guidelines.
• Works with staff to address patron concerns and issues in a respectful and timely manner.
• Responsible for the oversite, delivery, budget management, and marketing of public programming.
• Represents Portola Branch by participating in community outreach events and meetings.
• Meets weekly with direct reports to discuss work performance and build successful working relationships.
• Prepares annual performance plan and evaluations in accordance with the established deadlines.
• Supports branch public services on evenings and weekends by serving as Acting Chief of Branches.
