POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Buchanan C.A.R.E. Director, the Alternative Education Site Coordinator will work as part of an interagency team to provide case management, mentorship, conflict mediation, and service connection to enrolled students, and specific operational duties for the school. The Program Coordinator works in partnership with the San Francisco Unified School District and County Office of Education (SFUSD-COE) teachers, counselors, and administrators.

The collaboration between the YMCA and SFUSD-COE focuses on meeting the needs of youth by creating and supporting individual action plans toward transfer and graduation.

This position will lead the scheduling and coordination of all exploratories and intakes. In addition, they will manage up-to-date communication around scheduling, attendance, and reports. This position also maintains the documentation and inputting of data into systems required by the program’s grant funders. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for assisting with the opening and/or closing of the school site. The candidate must hold general knowledge of the facility, programs and activities at the Y.

This position is responsible for helping to maintain a safe, clean, and accessible environment; this includes managing inventory. This position is a vital member of the Y’s Alternative Education Team; the candidate will be collaborating with partner sites and attending the multi-site monthly wellness team meetings. The Site Coordinator has a direct relationship with SFUSD-COE, the Department of Children Youth and their Families (DCYF), the Juvenile Probation Department (JPD), San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), and all other Buchanan C.A.R.E. partners.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS
  • Operations:
    Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program by providing direct service and life skills curriculum, SFUSD lunch coordination, supporting program finances, gathering and reporting student and program data, and other program administration needs.
  • Communication:
    • Develop and maintain a high level of communication and positive relationships with school administrators, teachers, parents and other organizations/agencies.
    • Develop and maintain positive parent relations.
    • Respond promptly and courteously to parent concerns and/or complaints in a timely manner.
    • Immediately notify the C.A.R.E. Director of parent concerns and/or complaints.
    • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress in relation to attendance.
    • Complete DCYF monthly reports and attendance.
    • Manage up-to-date communication around scheduling, attendance, and records requests.
    • Support the management of student database and all other duties related to inputting, tracking and compiling student data.
  • Student Support:
    • Assist and respond to student’s needs, questions and requests during the school day.
    • Coach student supports and empower high school-aged youth.
    • Advocate for students’ needs through case consultations, CFTs and IEPs.
    • Support students with creating and meeting goals for their Individual Learning Plans.
  • Safety:
    • Participate in the Buchanan Safety Committee.
    • Mentor students requiring intensive emotional and behavioral support.
    • Assist teachers when needed with behavior management and conflict mediation, using restorative practices and de-escalation strategies.
    • Facilitate restorative circles in collaboration with Student Supports.
  • Create and implement short- and long-term plans for the Buchanan Alternative Education Programs.
  • Lead the scheduling and coordination of all exploratories and intakes.
