Under the supervision of a Program Administrator in charge of Elementary School, Middle School, and/or High School, the Child Welfare and Attendance Liaison (CWAL) will assist in developing and implementing intervention plans which promote positive relationships between parents, community representatives, and school personnel which would improve the behavior and attendance of students. The CWAL acts as a link between parents and community groups, teachers, and other employees of the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) for the purpose of providing information and support for students.

This is an itinerant position based in the Pupil Personnel Services Department that meets regularly with school site Assistant Principals, Attendance Clerks, Head Counselors, and School Counselors to determine appropriate support to increase student attendance and acts as a liaison between the students, their families, and the school.

The CWAL position is responsible for organizing, implementing, and coordinating programs designed to improve pupil attendance, contacting individuals and groups, and preparing reports and maintaining records on program activities. The CWAL must monitor truant students’ attendance, make home visits and be an active participant in various school sites Student Assistance Program (SAP) and/or Student Attendance Review Team (SART) meetings. In addition, CWAL will serve on a rotational basis as on office of the day for their individual division to answer questions for the division and to provide back up support for school sites in determining appropriate support for students.
