About the role
The Vessel Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of our vessels. This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing all mechanical systems onboard, supporting smooth daily operations and preventing mechanical disruptions.
What you'll do Mechanical Maintenance & Repair- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on all mechanical systems, including engines, generators, pumps, hydraulics, HVAC, and other onboard equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Conduct inspections and system checks before and after vessel operations.
- Identify, assess, and resolve mechanical failures in a timely and effective manner.
- Respond to mechanical emergencies and undertake corrective repairs to minimize downtime and ensure vessel safety.
Operate and maintain auxiliary and mechanical equipment such as winches, hoists, compressors, and related systems.
- Ensure all assigned equipment is kept in proper working order and meets regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate logs of all maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
- Ensure work complies with USCG regulations, manufacturer recommendations, and company standards.
- Monitor inventory of tools, equipment, and spare parts.
- Assist with ordering and restocking essential supplies needed for ongoing maintenance and repairs.
- Work collaboratively with vessel leadership to ensure safe and efficient vessel operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Captain or management.
- Strong mechanical background with the ability to diagnose and repair a wide range of vessel systems.
- Experience with marine mechanical systems preferred.
- Understanding of maritime safety protocols and environmental regulations.
- Ability to work in variable weather conditions and in confined or physically demanding environments.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Basic Safety Training (BST) preferred.
- First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
- Strong communication skills, reliability, and ability to work as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and sustainability practices.
